Inconsistent and crazy would be the 2 words that would come to mind when describing me. Ask how many times I have changed my major or the random crazy stuff that I did and you would get an infinite answer.
For a long while I wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy, but after taking calculus 1 during my freshman year of college coupled with poor study habits during the 1st year and a half of college, that dream was effectively shattered.
Over the course of college I changed my mind a few more times to suit my different interests. Most recently, I’ve thought about pursuing a 2nd degree in accounting at because accountants have great job security and having spend a summer on the couch at home watching daytime tv, I started to become cynical in viewing the world. I reasoned that at the end of the day having a career that can be deemed “professional” and pays the bills is more important than personal interest or happiness.
When I told my friends and family my plans to be an accountant the universal reaction to the news was: “wth”. The expressions on their faces were priceless. The only “good” comment from such an exchange was; “you can be a fun accountant a least.”
Despite not having too much support, I began my quest to be an accountant. After a quarter of accounting classes and deep talks with friends and mentors I’ve come to realize many things: 1. accounting was just another of my fall backup plans 2. the reason I didn’t stick to any of backup plans because it was not what I want to do and I have a fear of failure, 3. in heart, I always wanted to be a pharmacist and wear that white coat.
Presently, I’m enrolled in all of the pre-pharmacy courses that I didn’t take or those that I didn’t do too hot in the 1st time and studying hard for the PCATs. With a little more than 5 months before I take my PCATs, I am worried and a little over my head. I sort of have no idea how I am going to do this but I see where life takes me. At worst I will just become another stuffy accountant doing your taxes or auditing you.
